By the end of these open air meetings, she was filled with the Holy Spirit, connected to the local body of Christ and excited to see others reached with the gospel.
I was on a week long trip to Mexico with a pastor friend of mine. We met up with a missionary worker where we had a week of Open Air Crusades in a mid-size city. At night we preached on a baseball field, and during the day the three of us went to the town square to hand out gospel tracts. It was so much fun. Most people took the tracts and quite a few stopped to read it on the spot. Before I go into the testimony, you need to know that I can only communicate very few Spanish words. I need an interpreter to be able to have a conversation. Since we were handing out a lot of gospel tracts I stayed by myself so we could give out more. One old lady who I gave a tract to started asking me questions in which I could not understand. I could tell though that she was definitely interested. I motioned with my hand for her to wait and I will be back. I left looking for Pastor Steve who was handing out tracts somewhere close. He could speak Spanish. When I returned back with Pastor Steve, the lady was still waiting for me. He shared with her in Spanish about the night meetings that we were having at the baseball field. That night she came and heard the gospel, and once the altar call was given she responded with an open heart to be born again. I watched tears rolling down her face as the born again experience was taking place. Every night she kept coming and brought others with her, and they were impacted by God in different ways. By the end of these open air meetings, she was filled with the Holy Spirit, connected to the local body of Christ and excited to see others reached with the gospel. Those are true signs of being genuinely born again by the Spirit of God. During those meetings there were many others who were saved, and physically healed including a lady who was deaf in one ear for thirteen years. But this one older lady stood out to me, because when I met her we could not even understand each other because of the language barrier. That did not limit God from reaching her. He had a big plan!! |
